As a nation, Nigeria comprises of people from different ethnic groups and religions. This has instigated a lot of rancor in the country. Perhaps the National Youth Service corp scheme is the only platform where Nigerians from different ethnic groups and religions are together for just one purpose; service to Nigeria. This platform presents young graduates with a whole new experience; some good and some not so good.

Corper Wee narrates the experiences of a young female during her compulsory service to her nation, Nigeria.

The descriptions of events, people and places are vivid as she expounds on the idea of nationalism.

My Review

Reading this book took me back to my NYSC memories. I wrote a little out of my numerous experiences here on my blog.

I was delighted to read another person’s experiences. I got to discover life in another state through the writer’s eyes.

This book was written in first person narrative and I enjoyed it. It was as if she was narrating her service year to me personally.

As a Nigerian graduate,I am thankful for the NYSC scheme. I made lots of friends, lived in a totally strange place far from parents and family yet still survived and came out stronger. That is what Victoria achieved too. She wanted to share her own experiences so she documented her one year adventure and compressed it into this wonderful book I just read.

I will recommend this book to anybody who is curious about the Nigerian NYSC scheme that is popular in my country, Nigeria. Graduates in my country below 30 years do look forward to serving the nation. Here is a free copy to download for your leisure, courtesy of the author. Get the book here

Sincerely speaking, I had to chat up the author to ask after some people in her book. This isn’t a fictional book. They are her true stories written in a narrative way. I am doing my best not to drop spoilers but just read this book, please.

Isn’t the book cover beautiful?

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. Opinions expressed in this review are mine.

My Review

With Love from Ma Maguire is the first book of Ruth Hamilton I am reading. The heroine is Maguire. I love how she came to be “Ma Maguire”.

Such an interesting page turning book.

This book is full of humour. I enjoyed Ma Maguire and Mother Blue’s banter and chatter and other awesome characters you can’t help noticing in this book.

As a trained health educator, I am impressed at the author’s knowledge of hygiene and poor sanitary practices and the diseases that results from unhygienic practices. This is an eye opener and what a perfect novel to include fresh knowledge.

This book is heavy on lots of themes. Themes of love, family, good hygiene, choices etc.

I lack the adjectives  to describe  this book but I am rating it 5 stars perfectly.

So many characters you will love and enjoy in this book. You will feel lots of emotions but the story will stay with you even after dropping  the book to take a break.

One thing I learnt from this book is that “the truth will  definitely come out at the end”.

The book cover is so captivating. Ma Maguire will always be my favourite character in this novel. I don’t want to drop spoilers but I love Molly, Sarah,Daisy, Charlie and Janet!

This book is so clean and fit to be read by any historical saga fan.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Random House UK through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
